This is an online version of Mary Lynch Johnson's () PhD Dissertation A Modern English - Old English was written in and first published in Johnson based much of her work on John R. Clark Hall's A Concise Anglo-Saxon Dictionary for the Use of Students (). She worked as a professor of English at Meredith College, Raleigh, North Carolina. sentences have also been cited from Sweet’s Anglo-Saxon Reader, Bright’s Anglo-Saxon Reader, and Cook’s First Book in Old English. The short chapter on the Order of Words has been condensed from my Order of Words in Anglo-Saxon Prose (Publications of the Modern Language Association of America, New Series, Vol. I, No. 2).

The original dictionary is a good one, albeit that it only has Anglo Saxon to modern English and no listing the other way. However, this Forgotten Books reprint is a little faint - many macrons are missing from the vowels - and the page size doesn't match the original, meaning white space at the bottom of each page/5(13).
